Given Circumstances

PAGE- 124 Character-Linda, Linda doesn't understand where Luke went, Fact, The research behind this is "I don't understand" Character- Luke, Luke took breaks longer then an hour, Fact, The research behind this is that it is on the timesheets and Linda clarifies that he has been taking longer hours "But he did. Sometimes longer then an hour" PAGE 125 Dave believes Linda is funny, he is mocking her, Opinion, there is nothing to say she is actually just being funny it is just Daves opinion. Linda knows that it is fraud, Fact, The research behind it is that she agrees with Dave. Dave accuses Linda of having an affair, Opinion, He has seen messages between the two but has no proof of seeing them together especially as Linda at first has no idea what he is talking about. Linda says she hasn't been having a relationship with Luke, F/O, in her opinion she hasn't but from a previous scene we know that they have had sex. Luke has been paid more then...

My thoughts throughtout the play.

At the beginning of the play I thought that Linda had an organised perfect life, with a family and a perfect job. When first meeting Neil I was interested in the fact that he was more focused on his tablet rather then Bridget who was discussing her audition monologue with him. I then could see how Linda's life wasn't as perfect as I thought because I could see the struggles she was going through with work. Before knowing what had happened I was confused as to what had upset her and made her wear the sloth onsie continuously. Then after learning I felt sorry for her and I could see how she was angry with her mother for not doing more to understand and help her. You could see that she didn't want to ask for help because she felt like Linda would dismiss her and say it was her own fault. However I can see that Linda has made some small mistakes with the way she reacted to what Alice did but I can see that she only reacted like that because she wanted to strengthen...

My scene

My scene consists of Linda and Dave talking about how Luke has left. Then Dave blames Linda for Luke's over pay and then accuses her of having an affair and says she should know better because of her age. Linda is angry with Dave in this scene because he has blamed her for everything, however she knows he isn't wrong. But she knows that she's in a tight position because of how she's been acting recently but she feels that she cannot loose her job because she is a valuable member to the scene. However Dave shuts her confidence down as he asks her to resign. This makes her feel  awful as all she's ever tired to do is help the company and what she has been doing is trying to push the company in a new direction, however, Dave doesn't agree and believes she is the "Shadow of corruption". This then leads to him forcing her to resign but because he values her for her previous contributions to the company her allows her to finish her resignation by the end o...

Penelope Skinner

Penelope skinner is a British playwright. The first play she produced was 'Fucked' in 2008 and was performed at the Old Red Lion Theatre and at the Edinburgh Festival. After 'Fucked' her plays had become massive hits.  She has also had plays performed at the Royal Court Theatre. Skinner is 39 and before becoming a writer she wanted to be an actress but money stopped her as she felt it was a set back. She feels for the beauty industry because she is a feminist and feels for women in the things they have to go through. She feels as if the beauty industry is confusing with its talks about female empowerment, she states  “That’s a central dilemma in Linda: to what extent are we making women feel better about themselves, and to what extent are we selling them something?” . This refers to Linda, this makes me think that maybe she has some issues with the beauty industry

Rehearsal success tips

Top four things to think of which are helpful things for you to have a successful rehearsal. What things are helpful things to help have a successful rehearsal Work together To experiment with how you do it Never stick to the same thing again again and again Ask for advice Research into the play Confidence Exploring your characters objectives and actions Release your instincts Know your partners limits what physically and emotionally (push them) Play your objectives and actions to the full Saying your actions out loud/ Call your actions (to look, to be noticed, to disturb) When an actor is speaking breath in their words Notice the finite physical stimuli ( like pursing lips, stopping between typing) read all physical stimulus If you don’t know your lines hold your book up instead of down, don’t look down look up so that it doesn’t break your movement and character. The truth comes from the reality of doing. The text rides on the action

Lindas profile.

Image
Age: 55 Occupation: Business woman at True beauty. Relationship: Married, Neil. Family: Mother of 2. Bridget and Alice. Car: Aldi A5 Awards: Many for her great contribution to the beauty industry. Linda is a mother and business woman, she works hard for her family. To the right you can see a photo of a woman in a business type attire. I believe this is something Linda would wear, I can picture Linda wearing her hair like as well. I think that she would wear something like this as well as the jewellery because I believe she likes to look more youthful and professional too. I think Linda is a woman with style and she still keeps herself conservative, as she is a married woman. When her children find out she is listening to music they seemed surprised because she never listens to it. Maybe she never has the time to listen to music. Something she might've listened to>>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16TebJDV1tc The size ten dress she always talks a...

Evaluation Of Another Performance

The performance I'm going to be evaluating is Katie and Keirans performance. I enjoyed their performance because it felt very real. This was down to the fact that I could see the emotions pouring out of Katie and I could see the betrayal and hurt that she was showing. I could sense that she was trying to stay strong but I could also see the anger that she felt towards the character Neil. As well as this her partner Keiran reacted to what she was saying naturally and you could also see the emotions in his body language and face. I found it interesting how he always was sat down and that might be because whenever we see him he is always sat down on his tablet, however at this point he's not on his tablet but he is sat down. Katie was stood up and she faced him and then at moments when you could see her emotions building she would turn away from him and this might've been because she was too hurt to look into his eyes and she couldn't bare the sight of him. I liked the s...

Presentation answers rewritten.

why did skinner write the play? Skinner was influenced by her mother to write the play cause her mother was always imagining the worst case scenario, so that is what Skinner did.  She was inspired to begin writing the play when her friend said "The thing is, no one is really interested in women in their fifties". This is when she began to focus on a play focusing on women over 50. She wanted Linda to be perfect and gave no worries and then she slowly allowed her to be flawed and imperfect. She wanted Linda's world to be in a world where it was full of  contradictions and so that she could explore the feelings of a woman who has a public agenda. why do you think the royal court made a choice to stage this play? The Royal court theatre was opened in 1956. It was refurbished in 2000 due to building regulations failure. The Royal Court was the first national theatre company and is a writers theatre. They like to show plays which don't conform with society they like p...

Evaluation on Final Performance.

I think that me and Tahj both brought more emotion to the final performance. We both connected well and this helped us. I was able to get more emotionally connected which meant I was able to get more upset about the situation. My reactions to what the character Neil was saying got to me more. I think Tahj also seemed more emotionally connected and he had more depth to his character then he had before. Sometimes during rehearsal he would loose the emotion but during the final performance he didn't loose any emotion and it was really good. There was tension in the scene which showed the anger between the two characters. I also think it was naturalistic but there could've been something more. I think it showed because we didn't do our blocking because we forgot, it made a difference to how natural the scene was and how much depth there was to the scene.  I think we could've been more naturalistic in what we were doing while we including the same emotions. I think another...

Character discussion.

Linda is the protagonist in the play. I would say she was obsessed with the idea of being the most ideal mother but she was also a workaholic. The reasons behind this might be the fact that she did not have a mother growing up herself. Luke is someone at True Beauty, he works with Linda and Amy.  He has strong religious beliefs and he talks about how he wants to travel the world. He also seems quite full of himself in the fact that he made a bet with Amy that he would be able to Sleep with Linda. When he did sleep with Linda he told Amy and I think that even though he didn't want her to tell anyone he secretly knew that she would. Neil is a teacher, Linda's husband and father of Bridget and Alice. Neil wants to be the rock star and thinks that having the affair with Stevie makes him feel like one. However once he gets caught he is resentful and regrets the affair. Sits on his tablet in most scenes. Stevie is in the same band as Neil and she is the person who Neil has a...

Contempory Lesson 5

Today in contemporary we worked on the technique where we would say one of the lines from the script and the partner had to reply with either saying it the same way or saying it with more emotion. They would also tell you things like "you're being confrontational" and you would have to change the way you said it. I found that for me and Tahj it helped us to gain more emotion into the scene and to work together more. We also talked about spacing and then we talked about our objectives and tried out making the scene more subtle or keeping it more intense. We spent the time in lesson wisely going over the technique we learned, going over it continuously. We also took away the sound and did it with the actions and then we added the actions, and then the technique and then we did it with the lines last. We spoke about the scene and what we thought we could do to improve. Another thing we did was every time we lost emotion we went back to the technique of saying the lines b...
